I’ve always had too much energy for my own good.
As a kid, my parents attempted to channel that energy into all that they could to keep me tame — from drum lessons to peaceful nature walks.
The drums didn’t last long — turns out they’re loud — however they found something that kept me in check. Competitive gymnastics. During my formative years gymnastics taught me discipline, precision and bodily awareness, and resiliency: how to push through discomfort. It wasn’t just physical — it gave me a sense of balance in mind, body, and spirit.
But more than that, sport taught me about community.
When injuries and growth made gymnastics harder, I shifted to ice hockey in the winter and soccer in the summer. That’s when I discovered something powerful: sport isn’t just about improving yourself — it’s about learning how your unique talents can lift others. In team sports, every pass, every position, every effort matters. And there’s something deeply moving about watching a group of individuals come together — not for personal glory, but for something greater than themselves.
Later in life, I discovered my passion for storytelling and chose a profession in film, multimedia and marketing. That’s when something clicked: if I hadn’t had the opportunity to find the right sport, my whole childhood — my whole life — might have looked different.
And I realized not every kid gets that chance.
It’s not because parents aren’t interested — it’s because they often don’t know what’s out there. So many amazing sports go unnoticed simply because the people behind them are focused on what they do best: building athletes, running programs, and creating safe spaces for kids to grow. These coaches, facilitators and administrators pour their hearts into the game — but they’re not marketers, and they shouldn’t have to be.
That’s why I started Vital Sports.
Vital Sports is a multi-platform creative agency that helps nonprofit and community sports organizations build visibility, grow their membership, and strengthen their communities. We offer solutions to support program development, membership generation and retention and act as a fractional marketing department — giving organizations access to modern tools, experienced creatives, and tested strategies to grow their sport—so PSOs and NSOs can focus on their members, while we handle the rest.
Because the seven-year-old version of me is still out there — bouncing off walls, looking for a place to belong.
And they deserve to find it.
